Community Alliance for DIR®/Floortime-Illinois

You are cordially invited to join this new initiative!

Committed to supporting access to and utilization of the DIR® model in the neurodivergent population.

You are cordially invited to join this new initiative!

In Spring, 2022, the ICDL and Profectum organizations brought Illinois DIR practitioners together in a joint effort to recognize and respond to the growing needs of families and individuals as they navigate access to care. While Medicaid and insurance companies are beginning to honor choice in methodologies covered, the need for highly qualified developmental intervention providers is urgently needed. In addition, bringing awareness of these options in methodologies to those in referring positions is paramount.

Currently the Community Alliance for DIR® has agreed to virtually meet at least monthly. A steering committee meets weekly to synthesize the information shared, communicate with all members of the alliance, and create and share the subsequent meeting agenda.

During the monthly meeting following the initial collaboration, DIR® providers began to formulate the focus and direction of the alliance

Discussion included the following talking points:

  • To build relationships and resources

  • To address funding; insurance/Medicaid coverage options across disciplines

  • To cultivate a collaborative transdisciplinary cross-theoretical stance

  • To increase access to training and mentoring state-wide

  • To inform evaluation teams, pediatricians, neuropsychologists, IEP/IFSP teams of DIR®

  • To build shared language to use when talking about DIR®/Floortime in marketing, advocacy, reporting and assessment

  • To develop and distribute appropriate resources for families about developmentally informed treatment options

  • To support training at undergraduate and graduate level education across the state of Illinois both in the classroom and
through externships in developmentally based models

  • The use of shared language to discuss DIR®/Floortime

  • To educate community on process for DIR® certification and DIR® accreditation, including rigorous framework for ongoing
    supervision

  • To further explore the fidelity of DIR® services/clinicians in Illinois

  • To identify other action groups related to neurodiversity and join forces (i.e., a seat at the table of IDHS; Illinois Autism Task
    Force
These talking points were then synthesized into Impact Areas. It is anticipated that each Impact Area will have a “team” of individuals who would like to focus their efforts on action and outcomes in that specific arena. It is further acknowledged that there is overlap amongst the Impact Areas.
